Well, it will only penetrate armor at very close range, maybe a hero weapon only?

Lets not forget how modifiable that weapon is, you can but scopes, silencers, large clips, and laser sightings on that thing... It's a perfect (And expensive/hard reward) hero secondary arm.

I got an idea, isn't it a perfect reward from that blackops faction?

Hmm... the nextgen are long range specialists; the chainsaw bayonet is mostly to deal with ambushes, not for assaults. If i need another cqc weapon (still need to do up shotgun), then i might put it in.

Looks very interesting. I am eagerly anticipating the release of this. I do believe that this shall rank as one of the best games on Newgrounds, if only because of how ridiculously epic this looks.

I AM NOT WORTHY

*bows*

This game looks amazing I just have 1 comment the capes for the next gen soldiers kinda takes away their tenacity maybe instead of capes you could change the color of their armor to like a dark red or maybe black if you haven't already done that.

Your choice
Happy New Years!!

I would change their uniforms completely if it diddnt require thousands of keyframes of editing... Maybe AW3...

i have to say oreo, you are THE god of flash games. i still think you should put out a demo campaign so we can get the feel of AW2, and you're putting in the AC-130 spectre? awesome!

Wow, I can't believe you're putting in all this stuff, it's amazing. Also, CoD World at War isn't a good as CoD 4, I regret to say. What I'm keeping my eye on is Endwar, I'm gonna get a copy as soon as my local store finally gets some.
But I do have a few questions.......

Will the troops have aiming animations, instead of firing from the hip?
Will this game be able to run on lower level computers?
Have you added any new units for the zombies?
Are the things like two man MG squads?

That's it, Happy New Year!

Weapons that have a hipfire animation will also have an aiming animation. I had to put that in when i added scopes...

You can run the game on slower comps... although you have to disable alot of graphical goodness.

Zombies will have special units, but aside from xeno, i cant get more into it without spoiler. You will encounter one xeno during the first campaign.

I wanted to add two man teams (like loader/gunner), but it seems to be too complicated programming wise at this point...

Will zombies be able to hide in trees and leap out at our guys when near one another?

Zombies will have a method of ambush for every terrain type...

Maybe the strafing plane should be a Eurofighter Typhoon.
Here's the URL.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurofigh ter_Typhoon#Design

Is there going to be rain in this game? It could slow down our troops because of mud and it can make them less accurate when firing. What about foggy terrain? A tenth of the terrain can be foggy so we don't know what to expect. Oh and there should be some leaves flying around in some terrains to make the game look nicer and maybe some clouds moving slowly overhead.

Rain lowers max visiblity, which is good for infiltrators and snipers. I might also have it reduce the speed of wheeled vehicles over certain terrain types, but im not sure yet. The leaves have been in for some time now, and look freakin beautiful.

Well an interesting aircraft to put in would be the Osprey, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V-22_Osp rey.

And we all know that the raptor is a good combat plane, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-22_Rap tor

But I'd really like you to cut the strafing run part, this isn't WWII and people use bombs, not bullets. But hey, it's your game not mine.

Put that osprey in, It fits so well with the blackops

The osprey is cool, but the animation engine doesent really support that kind of structure. The nextgens air support vehicle is more like a helicopter that works like a harrier.
The A-10 warthog tank killer airplane thingie is still in active service for the sole purpose of strafing runs. The game doesn't really need strafing planes, but it won't be hard to put in, and i can make it look good.

wow just to say i'll list all the flash and console games iam waiting for

FLASH
1.bowmaster2
2.autumn war 2
3.deity's throne:aphelion(iam not sure this is the correct name)
CONSOLE/PC
1.STARCRAFT 2!!!!!!!THIS GAME RULEZ ALL GAMES EVER CREATED!!!!! WWW.STARCRAFT2.COM
2.gears of war 3
3.halo4
4.some unknown uncreated mmorpg game i shall actually play for more than a few months(yep thats my record i was playing lineage2 its free on unofficial servers which aren't gonna have updates as fast as official ones and might be buggy)

Bowmaster was such a good game. I thought it was really stupid when i first started playing, but I sat and played for a good few hours. So addictive.

On the whole fighter bomber aspect, the A10 or similar aircraft would be ideal. They carry a large gattling cannon, a shitload of bombs, and fly at a fairly slow speed to give more strafing time. The only thing is though, I can't see any weaknesses D: They're powerful against ground targets and pretty much flying tanks in terms of durability.
Maybe you could make them only carry the 30mm cannon, and have no countermeasures for SAMs and fighters? Or are you planning to use strafing runs as a set piece? Similarly to artillery strikes I mean.

Flares might be a cool artillery round. They brighten up any targets hidden by the fog of war, and blind any NVG wearing troops. I think animations would be pretty simple too; the artillery crew just loads a slightly different round, and instead of exploding, it makes a bright streak and whites out the screen.

Smoke rounds as well maybe? Launched by vehicles or rifle grenades, they'd obscure an area and screw accuracy for both sides. A smokescreen looks really epic in a large battle as well.

By MP5, do you mean the actual MP5, think SAS, or the MP5K PDW in the top right picture?

Osprey would be an interesting craft, but it'd be a bit of trouble. It only carries infantry and a two 20 cannons. Out of curiosity, why would the animation be any harder then a harrier?

I know I've asked you before, but have you considered doing a AW homebrew DS game? There is a huge community for it.

Anyway, thanks for the quick response and happy new year!!
John

The air support (for strafing) will be more of a set piece; you call it, and the pilot will give you an ETA, so you will want to spot the enemy, call in the air, and open fire when it finishes the run. The vulcan gattling gun that it has works for this.

The trouble with flares is the lighting effects for it. Otherwise it just allows the affected units to be targeted as though it were day.

Smoke I want to put in, but putting it in without slowdown would be really tough.

The MP5 in the game is an MP5K, but most people dont know the diff... im probably going to have both weapons in by the end of it, though (mp5k for crews and stuff, mp5 SD for infiltrators, MP5 for CQC, etc.

The graphics engine makes it tough to work with wide structures unless they are in the background, so helicopters, with their thin profile, are easy to put in. Mechs, osprey, and even houses have to be as far back as possible to keep the 3D effect, and the camera will be zooming in to the pilot as he talks, and the chalk as they unload, so osprey wont work. As cool as it would be...

I don't have a DS, and i have only heard a little about this homebrew stuff, but AW2 requires about 2ghz to run smooth in high detail, and i don't think the DS has that much muscle. Then again the resolution would be much lower...

Man this game is going to be awesome! Nice pictures. I just hope the game won't lag. So can you give an estimate as to when it might be released?

just a few questions.

1. will heavy machine gunners get some kind of bonus if they're behind sandbags or set up behind some kind of cover like a bunker or a city wall?
2. will each gun weigh units down? making their squad move faster or slower, and each individuals during battle retreat/charge faster or slower?
3. will nextgens be carrying heavier and more accurate weaponry?

now for some more suggestions(sorry =\)
1. maybe an extra command for battle(an add in to the retreat back hold advance charge thing) maybe kamikaze, all the troops sprint towards the enemy yelling "BONZAI!!!" (lol joking) they wouldn't fire but their melee would be increased incredibly and they would run towards the enemy faster than the charge.
2. perhaps something for the church that is similar to the red thirst the blood angels have in warhammer 40k. an ability only the most elite troops are able to use, able to take in five times the amount of bullets from before, the melee fighting would go 1 soldier>9 zombies. and aside from the fact that they need to be incredibly experienced, you immediatly lose control of them, making them attack everything that's near them after they've killed their original target, which will include your troops, making the strategy something rare to use, using it only if you have an expendable elite squad, and you're sure that none of them would survive afterwards.
3. would enough machine gun fire on a tree finally pierce through? hitting the soldier behind it unless he changes cover by advancing or retreating before it happens?

that's it for now

1. units don't get any attack bonus for being in cover.
2. recon units, which move a bit faster, cannot equip heavy weapons
3. Nextgens do have superior weaponry

The game looks awesome. Hope it finishes by next month cause i dont know how much longer i can wait. Have just two questions for the game.
1. Will there be a save feature so you can continue the game at where you left off or atleast something like mission selection screen?
2. Will there be something like mission/map maker so you can make your custom map and decide where to place zombies and where to place your own troops and start playing them?
Thx in advance

1. yep
2. yep

one last suggestion before i shut up for a while, Oreo, maybe, if you learn how to do this, then possibly create an Autumn War Online, which would be like one giant world of Autumn War 2 set up, only each faction has a starter area that is completely invulnerable to attacks due to incredibly powerful super units guarding it's entrance and some sort of anti air and anti arty. make it one MMORTS. would be AWESOME kill zombies with your friends online.

yea, i have been playing around with that idea for a few years now, but i would need a team to do it right...

Can you add shrapnel to big explosions?

there is shrapnel, and burning shrapnel. Bodies also explode when hit with explosives.

what is the percentage of aw2 done?

Thank you man. i was waiting a life time. can you tell us about how much longer will it be? merry christmas oreo commit later.

How large is the game, hard drive space wise, thus far?
Is it going to be only browser, or download as well? Some games run faster when downloaded.

I'll have to see what type of raw computing the DS has. Even if you knocked down graphics and stuff, the game would so much potential with the dual and touch screen interface. I think average game size is between 32-128 megs.

First thing I thought when I read "MP5K for crews and stuff"
Black Hawk Down style missions? :)
So are the old weapons still ingame?

Have you considered using the Neostead shotgun?
http://world.guns.ru/shotgun/sh08-e.h tm
It still retains the pump aspect, but I think the (comparitively) futuristic look and large capacity would make it perfect for the somewhat futuristic setting of AW
Its bullpup and pump forward-back rather then back-forward.

You said you needed another CQB weapon, would that do, or do you need something automatic as well?

I think some kind of machine pistol would work for room clearing style CQC and stuff. Skorpion, uzi series (full, mini, micro), TMP/MP9 (MP9 looks cooler and has a shoulder stock though), Beretta 93r, Glock 18C, Cz75 auto, stechkin, VP70 etc.

What makes the two man crews complicated?
Making the animations mesh during movement and damage?

The game's about 10 mb so far. I MAY put it out as downloadable (directX accelerated), but i think it would be for donation or something.

Yea, the game would work better on the DS then the ps3/360. Plus multiplayer and junk.

When a chopper goes down, you will have survivors, usually, and getting them to safety is important for keeping air support available in later missions.

The old weapons are in, but most have a few extra animations.

The mp5 will be good at close range / CQC, where as the shotty is pretty much CQC only. For room clearing, you always want to have your pointman with a shotgun. MP5/pistol are good too, and rifles are so-so.
You could also just attack the building with RPG/machinegun/artillery/tank/wha tever.

yay bayonets!!! So the soldiers can stab someone in the gut.... uv been playing gears of war 2 havent you
